Coaching at Dublin Climbing Centre

Our coaching sessions run every week and are open to members and day visitors alike. Current sessions are included in your standard entry or membership price and are led by experienced coaches who know our walls and our community, and are deliberately kept social and fun alongside the technical work.

To join a session you will need to have completed the relevant induction or assessment for that discipline. This keeps sessions at a level where everyone can progress together and coaches can focus on technique rather than basics.

Bouldering Coaching

Join Irish Youth Squad Head Coach Phil Duke for a weekly Bouldering Coaching Workshop. Phil and colleagues reset a section of our bouldering wall each week and he brings expert technique, movement demonstrations, and a sharp eye for factors that are holding your climbing back. Expect a social atmosphere alongside the serious skill work, it is one of the highlights of the week for our regular boulderers.

Common Questions

Do I need to book for Tuesday or Thursday coaching?

No booking needed for either session, just turn up within the session time. The only exception is if you still need to complete an induction first, which does require a booking.

Is there an extra charge for coaching sessions?

No. Both the Tuesday Bouldering Coaching Workshop and Thursday Women’s Coaching are included in your standard day entry or membership. If you do not intend on climbing top-rope during the Tuesday Bouldering Coaching Workshop, you can pay our discounted entry fee for bouldering climbing only. Shoes and harness hire are included in the Thursday session.

What are the Boulder/Top-Rope Checks and how do I get one?

These Checks are a free in-house assessment where a staff member watches you climb and/or belay and confirms you possess the safety skills to use our facilities unsupervised. More details on our Info page →

I have only done the Bouldering + Auto-Belay Induction. Can I join Thursday’s coaching?

Not yet, the Thursday Women’s Coaching session includes top-rope climbing, so you will need to be able to belay first. Contact us to discuss next steps before you are capable of joining these classes.

I am not a woman, are there other coached sessions for me?

The Tuesday bouldering coaching with Phil is open to everyone who has passed the bouldering induction or test. We are also expanding our coaching programmes, so keep an eye on this page and our social channels for new sessions.
