School Trips, PE Sessions & Transition Year Activities
Every climbing session is designed specifically for schools and supports PE learning outcomes, Transition Year programmes, Active Schools initiatives, and educational activity days. Sessions can be delivered as one-off school trips or as part of a longer-term climbing programme. We adapt to your timetable, your class size, and your students, including those with additional needs.
Structured climbing sessions designed for primary and secondary school students. Activities focus on physical literacy, confidence building, teamwork, and problem-solving while remaining accessible for complete beginners. Our instructors manage all safety and supervision throughout.
All our instructors are Garda vetted and trained in the inclusive “Climbing for All” approach, designed to engage students with special educational needs alongside the rest of the class.
Sessions are structured around PE curriculum objectives β physical literacy, teamwork, risk management, and personal challenge β making them a straightforward fit for school activity days, timetabled PE classes, or TY experiences.
We can supply a full risk assessment document for your school’s records, suitable for principal or board of management sign-off. All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained to the highest standards. Our staff can supervise a maximum of 6 to 8 participants per instructor.
We can open earlier than our standard hours to fit around school timetables and coach schedules. Get in touch to discuss what works for your school.
Midweek School Sessions
Schools with sufficient booking sizes get a discounted rate: a 1.5-hour session for the price of a 1-hour session at β¬18 per student. That’s 30 extra minutes on the wall at no added cost, meaning more time for students to build confidence and skills, and better value for your school’s activity budget.
This makes climbing a competitive option alongside other school trip destinations, with the longer session gives instructors time to go beyond the basics with your class, and our flexible start times fitting your school day timetable.
The special school group rate and time extension applies when all of the following conditions are met:
Monday to Friday during term time, excluding school holidays, bank holidays, and summer periods.
Sessions starting at or before 5pm qualify. This works well for morning, midday, and early afternoon school trips, or as an extracurricular activity.
The discounted rate applies to school groups of 16 or more students. Most class groups qualify easily.
Then our standard 1-hour rates apply. You can find these on our Taster Sessions page
NICAS for School Climbing Lessons
Beyond one-off school trips, Dublin Climbing Centre can run a full NICAS Level 1 programme for your students: a 6-session certified climbing course delivered at a discounted school rate. It works as a structured after-school activity or within school hours, similar to how many schools run swimming programmes.
Teachers get a ready-made course with clear learning outcomes. Students work towards a nationally recognised award, earn an official certificate on completion, and can optionally track their progress in their own logbook. We provide session plans and learning outcome documentation for teachers who need to log it as a PE module.
A Certified Climbing Award for Your Students
NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) has five progressive levels. Level 1: New Climber is the entry point, delivered across 6 weekly sessions, and fits neatly into a school term as an extracurricular programme.
- Discounted β¬18 per student per session for school groups (normal price = β¬22)
- Students earn an official NICAS Level 1 certificate
- Suitable for students aged 8 and above
- Supports PE goals: physical literacy, risk assessment, teamwork, and personal challenge
- Clear progression pathway if students want to continue beyond Level 1
A Trusted Venue for Dublin Schools
Dublin Climbing Centre is one of Ireland’s leading indoor climbing facilities, with national-level coaches and members of the Irish National Climbing Team on staff. For schools, that means your students are learning in an environment that takes both safety and quality seriously.
We’re experienced in running sessions for primary and secondary school groups of all abilities and backgrounds, and we make the logistics easy, from documentation and risk assessments to flexible start times that fit your school day.
All instructors are trained in the Climbing for All approach, ensuring sessions are fully inclusive for students with physical, sensory, or learning impairments.
Why Teachers Choose Climbing for PE
Climbing develops balance, coordination, problem-solving, resilience and teamwork in a way that traditional field sports often cannot. Many schools use climbing as part of their PE programme because it engages students who may not normally participate enthusiastically in sport.
Teachers frequently choose climbing for Transition Year programmes, wellbeing initiatives, activity weeks and reward trips because every student can participate at their own level.
