More Than Just an Induction

Our Learn to Climb course is designed for adults who want more than a quick sign-off. It is a personalised, coached introduction to the sport. Across four weekly sessions you will cover all the safety and rope skills from our induction courses, plus technique and movement coaching that will give you a real head start for climbing independently. It is the best possible foundation for a long-term relationship with climbing.

Course Content

Sessions are scheduled weekly to suit your availability. Each session builds on the last, moving from bouldering and auto-belay through to full rope skills, belaying, and movement technique.

  • Everything covered in the Bouldering & Auto-Belay Induction
  • Everything covered in the Top-Rope & Full Access Induction
  • Harness fitting, tying in, and rope systems
  • Belaying, lowering, and catching a falling climber
  • Climbing movement fundamentals: footwork, body position, reading routes
  • Technique coaching throughout, not just safety sign-off
  • First-time registration fee as an independent climber included (€10)

This course is for adults only. For under-18s options, see our U18s & Families page. Rental equipment and day passes are included in every session.

After the course

What you will be qualified to do

  • Climb and belay independently on all top-rope walls
  • Use the bouldering wall and all auto-belay routes
  • Supervise up to 2 other climbers (adults: top-rope only; U18s: top-rope + bouldering walls)
  • Join Tuesday’s Bouldering Coaching with Phil Duke
  • Join Thursday’s Women’s Coaching with Ania & Noelle
  • Progress towards our Learn to Lead course when ready

Course vs. Induction: Which Is Right for You?

Both the Learn to Climb course and our Top-Rope Induction result in the same independent climbing qualification. Here is how to decide which suits you better.

Choose the Learn to Climb course if…

  • You want more than a safety sign-off: you want to actually learn how to move and be confident on a climbing wall
  • You are a beginner and want a gradual, coached introduction
  • You would like to understand technique and movement from the start
  • You want a free month’s membership included!
  • You prefer a longer course format over a faster induction

Choose the Top-Rope Induction if…

  • You have already done some climbing and just need the qualification
  • You want to get started climbing independently as quickly as possible
  • You are happy to work on technique yourself once you are climbing regularly
  • You already have a partner lined up and you are both ready to go

Just a really good place to go if you want to learn or practice. Had my first session a few weeks ago and all the routes were great, chill staff 🙂

Common Questions

Do I need to bring a partner?

Yes, the course requires a minimum of two participants. If you don’t have a partner, contact us and we can look at pairing you with another solo participant. Call us on 01 558 2800 or email [email protected].

How are the four sessions scheduled?

Sessions are organised weekly according to your schedule. When you book, we will arrange the timing to suit you and your partner.

Is this suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, it is specifically designed for people who have never climbed before. You do not need any prior experience, fitness level, or equipment.

What is the difference between this and the inductions?

The inductions are shorter and focused on safety qualification. This course covers all the same safety content but also includes technique and movement coaching across more sessions, giving you a much stronger foundation. It also includes a free month’s membership on completion.

Is this course adults only?

Yes. The Learn to Climb course is designed for adults. For under-18s options including NICAS courses and camps, visit our U18s & Families page.

What should I wear?

Comfortable sports clothing and clean trainers. All climbing equipment including shoes and harness is provided. Rings must be removed before climbing; long hair should be tied back.

What happens after I finish the course?

You will be fully registered as an independent climber and receive your free month’s membership. After that, you can continue on a day-pass basis or continue your membership. We also have weekly coaching sessions, a monthly Member’s Day, and a lead climbing course when you are ready to progress.
