What Happens at Camp

Every camp day is structured around the NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme): Ireland and the UK’s recognised framework for developing young climbers. Rather than just climbing, children work through skills progressively, so they’re always learning something new.

Each session includes a mix of coached climbing, team games on the wall, and movement challenges. Groups are kept small so every child gets attention from our experienced instructors.

  • Coached climbing technique using the NICAS framework
  • Climbing games and team challenges
  • Introduction to route-reading and movement
  • Safety awareness and climbing etiquette
  • Fun, high-energy environment with experienced instructors

Why We Use NICAS

NICAS is the nationally recognised indoor climbing award scheme for young people across Ireland and the UK. It gives children a structured pathway through climbing, from their very first moves on the wall all the way to leading routes independently.

By running our camps on the NICAS programme, your child has fun and makes new friends all while building a climbing foundation they can continue after camp through our regular NICAS weekly sessions.

Common Questions

Does my child need any climbing experience to join?

Not at all. Our indoor camps are designed for complete beginners as well as children who have already started climbing. We place kids in appropriate groups on arrival so everyone is challenged at the right level.

What age can children attend?

Camps are open to children aged 7 and up. There is no upper age limit and teenagers are very welcome. Older beginners fit right in and tend to progress quickly.

Is the camp supervised the whole time?

Yes. Campers are supervised by our qualified instructors throughout every session. Drop-off is at the centre and pick-up is at 1pm. Children are not permitted to leave the building unaccompanied.

Will my child work towards a NICAS award during camp?

Camp activities are structured around the NICAS framework, so your child will be building towards their Level 1 award. Formal assessment happens through our weekly NICAS classes, but camp is a great way to get a head start or reinforce skills already in progress.

Can my child continue climbing after the camp?

Absolutely, that’s one of the best things about basing our camps on NICAS. After camp, children can join our regular weekly NICAS sessions to continue progressing through the levels. It’s a natural next step. Find out more about our NICAS programme →
